History

Objectives

  • To simulate interest in, and enthusiasm for, the study of history;
  • To promote the acquisition of knowledge and understanding of human activity in the past, relating it, when appropriate, with the present;
  • To help students acquire knowledge so that they can demonstrate their understanding of the major development of our world civilization;
  • To enable students to master a range of skills so that they can handle historical evidence and make deductions and inferences from them independently. These skills include vocabulary, sequencing, comprehension, analysis and evaluation;
  • To help students acquire the following 3 values and attitudes: respect the culture and heritage of other communities; develop a spirit of impartiality and empathic understanding to historical problems and issues; and have a sense of national identity and to become responsible citizens.
